Blood TestsBlood tests are undertaken at Chartfield Surgery by the Nurse team. These appointments are pre-bookable - contact us online to book an appointment. You can also get your bloods taken at the walk-in service at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton. We recommend Roehampton due to minimal waiting times and close proximity (under 20 min walk) from Chartfield Surgery. |
Cervical ScreeningCervical screening, also known as a smear test, is a test to check the health of your cervix. The cervix is the opening to your womb from your vagina. Cervical screening is not a test for cancer, but it is a test to help prevent cancer. All women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64 are invited to take part in the cervical screening program. It's important that you take up the appointment as soon as it is offered to you, as cervical screening is a very effective way to prevent cancer. During the screening appointment, a small sample of cells will be taken from your cervix. The sample is checked for certain types of a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. These are called "high risk" types of HPV. If these types of HPV are not found, you do not need any further tests. If these types of HPV are found, the sample is then checked for any changes in the cells of your cervix. These can then be treated before they get a chance to turn into cervical cancer. You'll get your results by letter, usually in about 2 weeks. The letter will explain what happens next. You may be invited to be re-screened 1 year after your first appointment, and in a few cases, you may be invited to have a colposcopy so that your cervix can be examined. Childhood ImmunisationsThe Childhood Immunisation programme is designed to give your child protection against a number of diseases including Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (whooping cough), Polio, Hib, Pneumococcal, Meningitis, Measles, Mumps and Rubella. Please see the NHS immunisation schedule for when children should have their routine immunisations and then contact us online to request an appointment for our child immunisation clinics. |
Diabetes ClinicsDiabetic patients are offered an annual review along with a six monthly blood test in order to monitor their diabetes. If you would like to book an asthma review, or a diabetic medication review please contact us online to book an appointment. Patients may also benefit from investigating diabetes education resources available online. |
Ear irrigationPlease read the NHS guidance on ear wax build-up before contacting the surgery. If you have not followed this advice we will be unable to irrigate the ear due to possibility of damaging the ear drum. If you have followed the guidance, and are still in need of ear irrigation please contact us online to request an appointment. You may also find it helpful to consult with your local pharmacist about ear wax build-up, who can offer advice and over the counter treatments. |
Flu and COVID-19 VaccinationsIt's important to get your winter flu and COVID-19 vaccinations if you're eligible. Getting vaccinated every year will top up your protection and reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms. |

Travel Health & Immunisation ClinicsTravel advice and vaccinations are available at Chartfield Surgery. The nurses who staff these can also give you advice on which vaccines you need. Ensure you have an appointment booked at least 2 months before your date of travel to ensure vaccines have time enough to work. Unfortunately a charge has to be made for some of these travel vaccinations.
